Art Classes and Lessons for All Ages!

One of the reasons I teach art classes and workshops here at the Creative Palette, is that I am able see the joy and wonder that creating art brings out in anyone. Whether you have never painted before or you are a seasoned artist, the Creative Palette offers unique workshops or classes where you can just play with art in a safe, relaxing environment. Here at the Creative Palette we believe everyone is meant to create!

The Creative Palette is excited to be in their new location at the corner of 36 Wellington St. West.  The entrance is on Mary St. with a couple of parking spots and parking on the street.  Take Bayfield St. off of highway 400 and go south.  Wellington St. is just a couple of stop lights south of the 400 entrance.  Children, youth, teen and adult classes are available seasonally.  We offer a variety of classes that can include painting, drawing, sculpting, felting and a variety of mixed media art and techniques.   We have a great new space and will be offering small personalized classes with "en plein aire" painting and crafts available weather depending in the gardens.

We offer after school and evening classes during the fall, winter and spring sessions and full day programs in the summer. All supplies are included and every session is new and different so we encourage your child to grow with us! Please go to our website and see just what we can offer you and your family in our small, specialized art classes and workshops.

The Creative Palette

The Creative Palette was originally opened in Thornton, Ontario in May 2010.  As of April 8th, 2015, we are opening our new location at 36 Wellington St. in Barrie.  In this bright, newly renovated century home we will continue to grow our reputation for outstanding art programming for all ages and levels and offer quality picture framing service to Barrie and surrounding areas.  We believe that the process of discovering, framing or creating art is therapeutic and by offering a small personalized home-based business where service still matters, we can give our customers a brief respite from a very busy world.

The Creative Palette is located at 36 Wellington St. West, on the corner of Wellington and Mary St., where the entrance to the studio and parking is actually on Mary St.  We have only 2 parking spots available, but parking is available on the road, on the east side of Mary St.  We plan on expanding our parking spaces and making our little studio even more accessible for all.  We are excited to offer opportunities for outdoor "en plein aire" paintings and activities on this beautiful new 3/4 acre property with perennial gardens.   Heather Dekker, resident artist, teacher, and picture framer, speciializes in a variety of materials and methods.  "I will work with smaller groups and I will have more time to perfect my craft so I can share my love of creating and framing with others.  I believe that my customers are my friends. I will offer a calm, relaxing environment where others can create with me and where you will receive the best quality and price with my picture framing service."  Come out for a visit and let's create together."

The Creative Palette recognizes and supports the creativity in everyone! Please come by and support local arts in the Barrie area. Our retail hours are limited but appointments are encouraged for any time we are not teaching.  Shop Canadian and shop local! Custom Picture Framing Service

Bring in your favorite photo or keepsake to The Creative Palette, Barrie’s best picture framing studio. We enjoy working with each customer to make the framing experience a fun & memorable one. It is a pleasure to have our clients involved in the design process, to know they played a key role in their framing choice so their artwork becomes a source of satisfaction and pride for many years to come. We will be pleased to custom frame your memorabilia, artwork, needlework and photos to fit your décor and budget. Ask us to see how the latest in materials and techniques will enhance and prolong the life of your art.

Picture Framing at the Creative Palette not only involves picking the right frame to go with your special piece, we also want to help you hang your art when you get home. We offer at home consultation at no cost when you purchase a painting or do custom framing with us. One of the most common mistakes people make when hanging their art is how high they hang the piece. The proper height is that which puts the center of the picture at eye level. The general rule of thumb is that the center of the picture (the middle of the image) should be 5 feet from the floor.

In general it is better for obvious reasons of conservation to avoid locations illuminated by direct light: some artwork like watercolours, photos and pastels do not resist. Therefore use south facing locations or wall opposite to windows. If you want to illuminate your artwork, avoid destructive UV-rich lighting (eg halogens). Incandescent lamps or energy saving lamps are still what is best (don't forget L.E.D. bulbs!)

Avoid placing a small frame alone on a large wall. Find it rather a place between two windows, between two pieces of furniture ... and center always this element isolated from its surroundings. On the contrary, a large frame can perfectly be in place on a small wall ... everything is a matter of feeling. It is an excellent manner to arrange your lay-out than put all the frame centers on a line at eye level. Before hanging, arrange them flat on the ground to judge the effect. Line up the top of the frames so even if they are all different sizes they will have balance. On the contrary you can also line then up on the bottoms or along a side edge. The more you play around before you hang them the less holes your wall will end up with!

Please call Heather at the Creative Palette 705-458-1278 for more information. The Creative Palette is your one stop place to buy art, frame art or learn how to create art!

"My daughter loves coming to art class with Heather. She loves it so much she has asked to join a second class per week. The pieces she has brought home are beautiful. Our favorite painting is on our fireplace mantel so we can see and enjoy it every day. Heather is very talented and works well with the children. We would recommend this class to everyone."
